Pills, Powder & Plonk: Taking Action on Alcohol and Other Drugs in our Community

Thursday 19th April, 2012, Surfair on Marcoola Beach.  Registrations now open.

    Art for Head Sake

The value of art as therapy, as a treatment to aid recovery from mental illness, is not new. Yet there is virtually no money to fund such programs.  Funding ids usual by donations or co-payments by participants. The value of choirs for people with mental illness and those homeless has resonated with Australians through the Choir of Hard Knocks.

How then do we incorporate art as therapy into the recovery programs in all the settings where mental health services are provided?   This seminar will feature some leading artists – authors, painters and sculptor – and curators and administrators working in the arts. Through the presentations and the masterclasses, participants will have an opportunity to develop art therapy programs as an integral component of recovery.

An art exhibition will be on display with works from people who have a mental illness.

    2013 National Mental Health Summit

Plans are already underway for the 2013 National Mental Health Summit.   Very successful events were held in 2010 and 2011 so we are taking a break in 2012 so that we can provide an even better 2 day experience in 2013.   In 2012 Queensland Alliance will stage their national conference and we will participate in this with them.   The theme of the 2013 Summit has yet to be decided so if you have any great ideas for speakers please let us know on focus@scdgp.org.au.
