Art for Head Sake

The value of art as therapy, as a treatment to aid recovery from mental illness, is not new. Yet there is virtually no money to fund such programs.  Funding ids usual by donations or co-payments by participants. The value of choirs for people with mental illness and those homeless has resonated with Australians through the Choir of Hard Knocks.

How then do we incorporate art as therapy into the recovery programs in all the settings where mental health services are provided?   This seminar will feature some leading artists – authors, painters and sculptor – and curators and administrators working in the arts. Through the presentations and the masterclasses, participants will have an opportunity to develop art therapy programs as an integral component of recovery.

An art exhibition will be on display with works from people who have a mental illness.
